The Fillo Elite camping pillow is an ultralight version of Nemo's award-winning Fillo, bringing clever design to an often overlooked piece of camping gear.

We designed the Fillo™ Elite with a layer of 100% Post-Consumer Recycled Primaloft® insulation, combined with a 3” I-beam baffled air cell and an ultra-soft jersey cover.I also realized that bringing an extra fleece jacket to use as a pillow was likely taking up more space in my pack than just bringing a dedicated pillow. It's important to note here, though, that the Fillo Elite only offers a maximum of 3 inches of support, which is among the least loft of any model tested.

The ultra soft, brushed fabric outer feels great against the skin so it's really comfortable for camping in any conditions. The cover and the thin insulation layer just add to this and give it more of a pillow feel, and add some warmth against your face. A bit more material to extend the stuff sack's volume would be an improvement here, but it's not a deal-breaker. The Fillo can also be used as a clean, foam topper to pillows that might be questionable in hostels or motels while traveling. We decided to bring clever design and luxurious attention to an often-overlooked piece of gear: the humble backpacking pillow, which is essential to a comfortable night’s sleep.Luckily I saw a one-day weather window of lows in the 60's and a high of 80 so I decided to go for it. I say this because if I turn on my side, my head pushes all the air out from underneath my head until my head lies on just the memory foam, which is only about 1 inch in height.

Nemo redesigned the classic pillow, using a combination of a baffled air cell, thick luxury foam, a soft, washable jersey cover, and an ergonomic valve. Our testers loved its hybrid design, which is a fantastic compromise for folks who want the comfort of a compressible pillow yet the smaller packed size and adjustability of an inflatable. The bottom line is that the Nemo Fillo became my favorite camping accessory, and I’m not ashamed to say it! We used it on a 5-day backpacking trip down Washington's North Coast Route and got good sleep every night. However, when compared to other (especially ultralight) inflatable pillows, the extra layering of padding in the Fillo does a good job of tempering the sound.This occasionally results in my head and pillow moving off the sleeping pad, but is easily fixed with a little push. The Nemo Fillo combines some of the most desirable qualities of inflatable and compressible pillows into a top-notch hybrid pillow.

The features are great - it packs down to next to nothing in the attached stuffsack, the bungee on the bottom is great for raising it up a bit, and the memory foam/fabric combination is really comfortable. When packed into the stuff sack it's about the size of a large potato and weighs just ounces – small enough to carry into the backcountry. Temps were looking to be in the low 20's at night rising to 60's down at Phantom Ranch which made planning and stowing layers a bit tricky.Products which use recycled materials or packaging; helping to reduce extraction of new raw materials, keep materials out of landfill and reduce the resources consumed during the manufacturing process. It packs down incredibly well into an its stuff sack meaning you can still be comfortable on the move without sacrificing too much weight or space in your pack. Additionally, this pillow is great for hammock napping and even lumbar support when sitting for long periods. This pillow's stuff sack is rather small, though, which made it more difficult to get the pillow inside.
