Once you’ve completed each line of sealant, release the pressure from the application gun or it will continue to flow from the nozzle. Wipe the excess away and replace the cap. This MX Flexi Seal is for use in Bathrooms, Showers, Kitchens and other areas where a waterproof seal is essential. Step 3 - Work out the best route to the waste pipe from the waste trap in the tray. If your outlet pipe is already in place, connect this to the trap. Step 4: Mix up building sand and cement to create a mortar. Spread a thin layer carefully over the area where the shower tray is going to go. Position the shower tray on top of this and use a spirit level to ensure that everything is completely level. Allow to dry for around 24 hours.

One of the most common causes of water leaks from shower trays, shower enclosures and baths is the poor application of silicone sealant. Here are some handy tips to set you on the right path and make sure you apply silicone sealant correctly to achieve a professional finish and prevent water leaks. Shower tray sealing: the right tools High quality silicone sealant– make sure it’s designed for bathroom use and that it contains an anti-fungal additive. Place the smoothing tool against the tray and tiles, start from the point where you first applied the sealant and apply gentle yet consistent pressure pulling the tool along the length of the tray to remove excess sealant leaving an even bead. Do not apply too much sealant as excessive amounts can be difficult and messy to remove. More sealant can be applied prior to smoothing if required 6 – Make sure there are no gaps in the sealant bead

Once you’ve got rid of all the old sealant, clean the area you’ll be working on – vacuum up any grit and dust, then clean the shower tray and tiles. As sealant won’t work on damp surfaces, make sure that they are thoroughly dry before you start work (we recommend having a cuppa while you wait for the surface to totally dry!). Mask off the areas surrounding the shower tray with masking tape to protect them from accidental sealant application. This step will also help you achieve clean, straight lines when applying the new sealant. Good quality silicone sealant that’s designed for bathroom use and which is compatible with the tiles/surfaces in and around your shower tray

Remove any dust and loose deposits with a vacuum cleaner, and then clean the shower tray surface and tiles with a damp cloth that’s been soaked in warm water and mild detergent.

Step 5: Use the access hatch to connect the waste trap to the outlet pipe and the outlet pipe to the waste pipe underneath the tray. Remove old sealant – Use a sealant remover to dissolve the existing sealant, or, carefully scrape at it with a plastic or metal blade.

Step 2 - Ensure the riser legs are adjusted to allow an adequate fall for the waste to drain away, typically 50mm fall per metre length of pipework. Initially, it may be easier to get the tray level by adjusting the key corner legs first. And don’t forget to fit the centre leg.

Step 7 - Get a kettle or jug of water and pour it down the shower drain to see that it all flows through without any drips or leaks.
