The film is being written and directed by award-winning director Chris Green, who has been in the business for more than 18 years since coming runner-up in the prestigious Northern Soul new writers competition. The film follows his life from a youngster on the streets of Manchester to playing for Leeds Rhinos, becoming the undercard for Joe Calzaghe as a professional boxer, and being the lead singer of Salford band Hanky Park before struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.Making of an Addict promises to be an interesting and important film. Certainly one to look forward to... I’m fighting for the family. None of them wanted me to do it, but they’d prefer me living a clean life and fighting every now and then.” You’d probably never guess that Shinny, a muscular bloke with a gold tooth and arms of impressive tattoos, wakes up every day and struggles with intense anxiety. Martin Talbot, Official Charts Company Chief Executive, said: "It only seems yesterday that the NHS Choir got the nod from Justin Bieber in the race for Christmas Number 1 2015 – but it is so exciting that the annual festive race is almost upon us once again. Who will be the leading contender this year will no doubt only become clear as the starting gun is about to be fired. But, one thing is for sure, the race will be fought as enthusiastically as ever. We can’t wait for it to get underway!"

James Davenport (aka SHINNy ) is a former professional boxer, Rugby League player, lead singer of HANKy PARK and solo artist. After struggling with addiction, he now breaks the stigma attached to recovery and helps thousands of others face their demons on a daily basis. He has only been stopped once so I expected a tough fight but I feel like I've not even fought and could probably go again! And it has been supported from local celebs including former Shameless stars Jody Latham and Tina Malone and Happy Mondays star Bez who all feature in the video along with former Coronation Street and Hollyoaks actress Saira Choudhry, former Waterloo Road actor Will Rush, model Maddie Morgan and Salford DJ Mike Sweeney. James Davenport had his life ruled by addiction for 35 years, ranging from food to drugs to sex. The problems started when the former boxer was just a child and spiralled as he grew older.

Fellow Salfordian Darren Cleary also chalked up a points victory on the Calzaghe undercard, beating Neil Marston 40-37 over four rounds.Chris Greenhalgh, the founder of I Love MCR®, said: “What’s not to love about SHINNy? A down-to-earth character who’s not afraid to put his hand up and admit his failures. A man who’s been there, done that, and now faces his demons with an open mind – and he’s not afraid to share his vulnerabilities and mental health with the world. The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century. He’s keen to talk about the help that he’s had along the way. Recovery fellowships and meetings have played a big part – and music too.

But the story is not just about the horrors" he added "There's a real positive and hope filled side to it as we see how hard he has worked to keep his addict subdued and how he uses his addiction as a positive force." This year’s Official Christmas Number 1 race begins Friday 16 December with the cut-off point for sales and streams to be counted toward the chart being midnight on December 22.
