Description

An honest and elegant book about modern love in the age of uber-celebrity and social media Hill Harper Solène Marchand, the thirty-nine-year-old owner of an art gallery in Los Angeles, is reluctant to take her daughter, Isabelle, to meet her favorite boy band. But since her divorce, she’s more eager than ever to be close to Isabelle. The last thing Solène expects is to make a connection with one of the members of the world-famous August Moon. But Hayes Campbell is clever, winning, confident, and posh, and the attraction is immediate. That he is all of twenty years old further complicates things. Lee also explored some common stereotypes that most women face at some point in their lives and she really focused on the age old double standard where older men date much younger women and no one bats an eye while an older woman dating a younger man is frowned upon and judged harshly.

It's definitely a book that stays with you for a while. I was up until 3am to finish it - and now - a day later, I still get these images in my head. Scenes from the book. Hayes smiling by the pool in France. Solène and Hayes walking through whatever city they were in at the moment. The phone calls - the texts - the sexy times. ☺ *sighs* I never wanted this story to end! Very emotional and touching but ultimately not for me. The writing is great, it just wasn't holding my attention that well and I think that's down to the subject matter. The main character is a woman named Lucy who is close to 40 with an extremely successful career but has been left wanting. She wants a husband and a baby quite desperately. While she finds the husband in an unexpected way, the baby part of the equation proves quite difficult. She is elated when she conceives, but sadly she experiences several miscarriages. They tear her apart. Amanda is a huge supporter of libraries and having become a proud ambassador for The Reading Agency, works tirelessly to promote reading, especially in disadvantaged areas. Amanda's ambition is to create stories that keep people from turning the bedside lamp off at night, great characters that ensure you take every step with them and tales that fill your head so you can't possibly read another book until the memory fades...Nicholas Galitzine is joining Anne Hathaway in "The Idea of You," a movie that follows a 40-year-old divorced mother who embarks on a tryst with a musician she meets at Coachella, Prime Video announced on Sept. 19. The film will be based on the book of the same name by Robinne Lee originally published in 2017, which became a huge hit a few years later — Vogue called it the "sleeper hit of the pandemic" in 2020. Galitzine most recently starred in Netflix's "Purple Hearts," and he just wrapped filming Prime Video's "Red, White & Royal Blue" movie, based on the bestselling romance of the same name. I DEVOURED this! The world-building and psychology around the romance was so good, and boy did the ending break me ... the book we really just NEED right now Holly Bourne Lucy is a 39-year old advertising executive who has just about given up on marriage and motherhood after her fiance left her to marry her cousin. But when she attends the christening of her godson, she meets Jonah Carpenter who immediately is smitten and so is she. They soon marry and try vigilantly to have a baby with tragic results. Life gets even more complicated when Jonah's 16-year old daughter, Camille, comes for an extended visit.

Thank you to NetGalley, Lake Union Publishing and Amanda Prowse for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. It's about family and new beginnings and the strength and power of love to carry on even when things are so tough and painful. When I first read the blurb for this book I have to admit that I did (wrongly) assume that it would be one of those cliched, happily ever after love stories. It was far from it, instead it was a genuine, raw and honest look at a “taboo” relationship that explored some really cool themes and smashed some well known stereotypes, especially ones towards women.

The writing in this book is sublime, seamless and this is a writing debut. Robinne Lee is an author to look out for. As many readers of this book will say, I want need more, just so that I can keep on breathing. This book is pure perfection and I read it every spare second I had, and some I didn't. It's that good. Get over the age thing and go for the ride. The h's insecurities bring her down (age-wise) and the H's life experience elevates him. They meet in the middle and it works, yet there's that underlying "gap" that's always there. But the brilliance of this book is that, at its core, age isn't the issue. Celebrity is. And the question becomes, should two people who are TRULY in love, let something like that get in their way? Yes. When there's an innocent child involved. Amanda Prowse has received a lot of praise from some of my reviewer contemporaries, so every time I saw one of her books on sale or in the KU library, I’d grab it, but to my knowledge this is the very first book of hers that I’ve read. Fans latched onto the story for its romance and globe-spanning intrigue, but the book has widely been characterized as Harry Styles fan fiction, since the musician who forms one half of the book's central couple is part of an incredibly popular British boy band. Lee told Vogue that Styles did, in fact, provide the initial spark of inspiration for the project, saying she "was up late surfing music videos on YouTube" when she "came across the face of a boy I'd never seen in a band I'd never paid attention to. It was like . . . art." When she learned that Styles often dated older women, the idea for the novel was born.

Thus in the whole book you have these two people who meet other people who are friends with other people and who live the high life who travel all around the world who make love like they don't care and there is no tomorrow. Steamy and sexy, this is escapism at its absolute finest. I spent the hours in between binges fantasising about the characters and what they were up to. The three days I spent reading this were blissful Laura Jane Williams, bestselling author of Our Stop Do I recommend this book? Yes, I do. Just know that this book isn't for everyone. You have to go into it with an open mind. The Idea of You follows Lucy, a career woman who is desperate for a baby. This is established right at the start, at a baby's Christening, where she meets her future husband Jonah, who proposes to her on the day. The first half of the book focuses on Lucy's miscarriages, the latter half on her relationship with her stepdaughter Camille, and also her own family (particularly her mother). So, this is a book about relationships, then. And there's nothing wrong with that. I found Prowse's exploration of the stepmother / stepdaughter relationship particularly interesting - and she captured the awkwardness, intensity and occasional hostility very well. There were also moments of genuine emotional turmoil - the author is clearly gifted when it comes to portraying raw, visceral emotions, which she does to great effect.STARS!! [My FAVORITE book of the last few YEARS!!] "If I get hurt, I get hurt. It happens, right? Someone always gets hurt. But I don't want to miss out on us because I was afraid." Before I begin this heartfelt LOVEFEST, let me say that I get that this book is not for everyone . . . but holy cow, was it ever for me! This book made my heart sing. This book made my soul cry. This book pulled me into its depths and didn’t let me go – not even when it was over. I loved EVERY.SINGLE.WORD. I felt that the husband's character was somewhat inconsistent. At times, he seemed like he was the most wonderful husband on earth and other times, he was a little dismissive or insensitive. I suppose people can be like that in real life, but it just didn't feel true. Like Soléne, Lee is finding her own second life as an author and creator. The Idea of You has been optioned for a screen adaptation by Gabrielle Union’s production company, I’ll Have Another, with Lee as a producer. “It’s still happening as far as I know,” Lee told me. “That's all I can say at this point. It's still in development.” By about 2/3 of the way through it was starting to drag a little, and yes, I did do a bit of skimming. But the ending was a reasonable one for the story, although it did feel a bit rushed. The whole boyband dynamics, Hollywood dynamics, etc. Although the author used way to many acronyms and obscured references that might get lost if you're not completely pop-cultured, she totally got all the dynamics and the references to a T. Not surprised since she's an LA based actress. I loved all of it.
