Description

The Swiss-made cinnamon-flavored schnapps is famous for its flakes of real 24-karat gold floating inside. It is 43.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) at 87 proof; however, it was originally produced with 53.7% ABV, or 107 proof. Goldschlager is a unique and highly recognizable liqueur that is famous for its signature gold flakes that float within it. Goldwasser, a liqueur infused with 23-karat gold instead (1 less karat than Goldschlager), was first created in 1606 and soon became a favorite of legendary Russian czars Peter the Great and Katherine the Great. In this Instructable, I will go over how to use a hydrometer to take density measurements of your brew, and how to transform these density measurements into a more familiar percent alcohol.

She has worked for some of the biggest names in the food industry, including Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, and Martha Stewart Living. The hydrometer is essentially a specially weighted bob - you place it in a liquid, and it will sink to a certain depth, which depends on the density of the liquid. My seeing how far it sinks, you can determine the liquid's density.

In this case, Goldschlager is a bold and well-loved Swiss cinnamon liqueur with thin but real gold flakes in it. So, should you go out and buy a bunch of bottles of Goldschlager and start straining out the gold and trying to turn a profit? The answer is a definitive no. Each 750-milliliter bottle contains approximately 0.1 grams of gold. Contrary to what many of our ancestors in past ages thought, gold has no health benefits at all. Since it passes through the human digestive tract without being absorbed, it essentially has no health effects, whether negative or positive. As mentioned above, gold schlager is an alcoholic drink that contains gold in it, more specifically gold flakes. It’s a swiss cinnamon schnapps with gold flakes that are said to cut the throat and stomach to deliver the alcohol straight to the bloodstream for faster intoxication, the source of this is an urban legend. However, it’s worth noting that Goldschläger has a reputation for causing hangovers due to the high sugar content in the drink. With that said, there’s a reason that only 23- or 24-karat gold is now used in food and drinks. Gold of inferior purity could potentially have harmful amounts of other (reactive) metals, so it’s very important that vendors selling edible gold ensure its purity. Although you won’t use too much lemon in this drink, the sweet and creamy taste of eggnog is evened out by the subtle sourness that the lemon brings.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Shot: In a shot glass, combine 1-ounce of Goldschlager and 1-ounce of RumChata. Serve and enjoy the creamy, cinnamon flavor. In the decades since, buzz around the liqueur has waned considerably, but its reputation as a spirit blessed with a Midas touch begs the question: How much gold is in Goldschläger, really? Imported by Sazerac Company. Goldschläger: 43.5% alc/vol bottled by Sazerac Company, Louisville, KY. Gold is among some of the most valuable and expensive resources on this planet, it’s used in various ways; mostly for making jewelry, and sometimes even utensils. You can even get some gold-plated items like mobile phones, and even chandeliers. In summary, there’s an endless way to use gold, and people have really taken that to another level.

The cinnamon flavor is not overpowering but rather subtle and warm, leaving a lasting impression on the palate.

If you’ve ever seen the 2007 coming-of-age teen comedy Superbadstarring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, you’ve heard of Goldschlager: the liqueur infused with flakes of real gold. In case you were unaware, this wasn’t just a made-up beverage from the movie, but a very real product that you can buy all throughout the world. Whether you’re a big fan of sweet drinks or you just consume them once in a while, you are guaranteed to enjoy this unique drink. Another common myth surrounding Goldschlager is that the flakes can lacerate your esophagus or your stomach lining, causing you to get drunk way faster. This is entirely untrue. If you’ve ever touched gold leaf before, it is extremely soft and malleable, and there’s absolutely no way it could cause internal lacerations. Whether or not that old Goldwasser tasted any good is up for debate, but the czars probably just loved it because drinking a precious metal was a way of showing off their extravagant wealth. Nonreactive metals can pass right through your digestive system without being absorbed. Don’t be surprised if you see some gold flakes in your toilet after a night of Goldschlager shots.

The ancient Egyptians ingested gold because they believed it had divine powers and that it could purify the mind, body, and spirit. Alchemists in ancient Egypt created medicines and elixirs using gold, and it’s believed that Cleopatra would ingest gold every night, as well as take baths with gold and use facemasks of pure gold. Its warm and sweet taste makes it an excellent choice for mixing with other spirits or enjoying as a shot. First, place the freshly sanitized hydrometer in its tube. Using your sampler, draw off a small sample of your brew from the middle. Now with that said, what we’re going to be discussing is also a food-related product, more specifically, an alcohol-based beverage called Goldschlager. We’ll discuss in detail what Goldschlager is exactly, as well as how much gold it contains. Just keep reading the article to find out! Goldschlager
