Razer Hammerhead Duo - Dual Driver In-Ear Headphones (Dual

Whilst I don’t rate wired headphones personally because I find the cable to be troublesome, I think the Razer Hammerhead Duo Headphones are a mid-budget choice that performs as you’d expect. The dual-driver technology makes a difference in the overall sound profile when compared to single-driver options, but can’t deliver the truly immersive experience of Active Noise Cancelling headphones.Probably one of the most underrated consequences of the dual driver technology is the consistent frequency quality as we turned up or down. Often sound quality can get muddy when speakers or headphones are turned down or they can get distorted as the volume gets close to its limit. With the Duos, however, no matter where we set the volume, we heard the same audio, just quieter or louder. Final verdict It also comes with an inline mic and controls which consist of three buttons: volume up, play/pause, and volume down. They work as intended and are a nice addition for those wanting to use this set while playing, watching, or listening on their phone. The music and sound effects in Dragon Quest III on Android came through in all their retro glory. Even better was the fact that Switch games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition sounded nuanced and balanced, particularly the voicework and orchestral scores. We featured the ANC version of the Razer Hammerhead headphones the other week, so this week I tried the Razer Hammerhead Duo Headphones, which is the non-noise cancelling version.

Razer Hammerhead Duo - Dual Driver In-Ear Headphones for

I should start this section off with a disclaimer: Earbuds generally don't fit me well, regardless of what their other merits may be. I've used cheap ones, fancy ones, gaming ones, music ones — it doesn't matter. With that in mind, I didn't think the Hammerhead Duo was especially comfortable. The buds pressed down hard on the inside of my ears, to the point where my upper jaw ached by the end of my sessions wearing them. Unlike the HyperX Cloud, though, the Hammerhead Duo at least stayed in place and didn't constantly feel like it was about to fall out. The triple-headed snake trademark of Razer is one of the most recognized logos in the global gaming and esports communities. With a fan base that spans every continent, the company has designed and built the world’s largest gamer-focused ecosystem of hardware, software and services. The Hammerhead Duo primes dual driver technology to become a standard for mobile audio users,” said Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. “It delivers a clear and precise audio experience in a comfortable form factor that perfectly meets the demands of daily use no matter where you are.”

Is the Razer Hammerhead Duo good for phone calls?

The dual drivers should also result in crisper audio free from distortion even if you’re enjoying things at a loud volume. Let me just say that watching movies on my phone via this headset was amazing. Watched some Game of Thrones and winter definitely arrived in my ears thanks to the Hammerhead Duo. As for music listening on the phone, the treble can be quite sharp if you listen on high volume. Lowering it fixes this for me. I listened to my usual servings of BTS, chill step mixes on YouTube and occasionally some Lauv and Khalid. Regardless of genre, the audio output is the same. The bass is fine and the trebles are clean. The Razer Hammerhead Duo comes with a typical set of features one would expect with high-quality in-ear buds: The tips allow for the use of 3 different sizes of replaceable silicone earbuds so that you can customize the fit to your liking. Not only will these tips help make the headphones sit more comfortably in your ear, but having a nice, tight fit also reduces outside noise. So while they’re not technically noise-cancelling, they can be truly immersive. We tested these headphones with movies as well and found that that same high-end frequency bump did show up time and again. While watching Hateful 8, the bells on the horses seemed to jingle quite loudly and in Solo: A Star Wars Story, blaster sounds were also surprisingly prominent. Comprised of two earbuds and a control panel for adjusting volume, microphone and play/pause functionality, the small form factor seems really attractive.

The sound stage was also very good. The Hammerhead Duo provided an immersive experience in Call of Duty, for example, as we could hear planes fly overhead and into the distance while bombs go off in a completely different direction. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, we could hear individual NPC’s pass behind us as we stealthily crept or wandered around them. Razer’s software platform, with over 60 million users, includes Razer Synapse (an Internet of Things platform), Razer Chroma (a proprietary RGB lighting technology system), and Razer Cortex (a game optimizer and launcher). The Hammerhead Duo is well-named due to it’s two drivers. The dual-driver technology promises immersive sound because the drivers separate the deep bass sounds from mid- and high- frequencies which means you have a full sound experience. When listening to these on my commute I missed my ANC headphones, but the sound profile was good and I didn’t notice too much loss. The two drivers are a balanced armature driver in the earpiece, and a dynamic driver behind that which deliver better sound than single-driver counterparts on the market.

I didn’t use it much for gaming on my phone since I’m currently only playing Epic 7. But entertainment wise (movies and music) the sound definitely delivered, as I stated above. VerdictThese are minor issues in the grand scheme of things. In fact, the lower high-end frequency, mids, and lows were all balanced in a very pleasing way, and this high-end frequency issue didn’t seem to affect gaming - the sound effects, atmospherics in games such as Tomb Raider, Sekiro Shadows Die Twice and Call of Duty WWII were crisp, detailed and balanced. At the same time, the buds can feel pretty sparse, especially compared to Razer's more ornate full-size headsets. Frankly, there's not much to set them apart from a good — and potentially more comfortable — set of music earbuds from a major manufacturer. SAN FRANCISCO, USA – Razer™, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, today announced the Razer Hammerhead Duo, a dual driver in-ear headset delivering clear and powerful audio for all forms of mobile entertainment like music, movies, and games. Hammerhead Duo primes dual driver technology to become a standard for mobile audio users,” said Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. “It delivers a clear and precise audio experience in a comfortable form factor that perfectly meets the demands of daily use no matter where you are.”
