Description

Microfibre– the 'luxury' version of hollowfibre, a microfibre fill is made of much finer strands of polyester resulting in a very lightweight duvet with a, yes, more luxurious feel. Some compare microfibre to the feel of down, but it has the upside of not running the risk of animal cruelty. However, again, being made of synthetics, the environmental impact of production and disposal is a concern. Like hollowfibre, microfibre can also cause overheating. At SleepSeeker, we believe that everyone deserves a happy night’s sleep. We have the perfect blend of sleep expertise, customer knowledge and manufacturing capability. Feather/down duvets are also very popular, owned by around a third of members. Less popular types include wool, silk and other synthetic duvets. More than a third of Which? members surveyed choose feather and down duvets, making it the second-most popular option. These lightweight, cosy duvets retain heat well but still help you to avoid overheating. Plus, if cared for properly, they will last much longer than synthetic fibre alternatives.

You'll know your duvet is due for an upgrade when the filling becomes limp or uneven, or it starts coming through the casing. Higher-quality bedding should last longer, but experts recommend changing out your duvet every five years. These all correspond to different mattress sizes. If you tend to feel cold in bed, go for the next size up from your mattress size (for example, if you have a double bed, use a king-size duvet), so that the duvet flows over the edges to keep warm air in and any draughts out. As the name suggests, feather and down duvets combine feathers, the outer part of a bird’s plumage, with down, the lighter, fluffier fibres that lie beneath feathers and provide insulation. The ratio of feather to down will affect the duvet's warmth and price.

Snuggledown Duck Feather & Down Duvets

One downside to all natural duvet fillings, including feather and down, is that you shouldn’t wash them at home as they can lose their filling more easily and are difficult to get completely dry afterwards. If they are cared for properly and professionally laundered, feather and down duvets can last more than twice as long as synthetic alternatives. Wool duvets: pros and cons If you're a hot sleeper or suffer from night sweats then you might also find this high down-mix fill too warm; opt for a more breathable wool-filled duvet like Floks Luxury British All Seasons Wool Duvetinstead to avoid overheating. Don't buy it if: you're on a tight budget as this luxury duvet has a luxury price tag. If you're a hot sleeper or suffer from night sweats then you might find down too warm; opt for a more breathable wool-filled duvet instead to avoid overheating. And, if you're vegan, then the feather and down fill won't be for you.

Pricing for other destinations within the UK is dependent on weight of parcel and geographical location Then there are the more traditional, natural fillingsto consider. These range from all types of feathers and down to wool filling.Tog, size and type of filling were the three most important considerations reported by the duvet owners we asked. Other important factors included whether the duvet was machine washable, labelled hypoallergenic, and how much it cost. Obviously, it isn't always convenient to have a different duvet for each season, so the middle ground of the 10.5 tog duvet is one of the most popular options. The tog rating of a duvet refers to the quilt’s ability to trap air and retain heat. The higher the tog, the warmer the duvet, and the cosier you will be. Often viewed as the height of luxury, silk duvets are naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, and therefore ideal for people with eczema or asthma. Like wool, silk will help you stay cool in summer and warm in winter. Like all natural fillings though, they will need to be professionally laundered. Microfibre duvets: pros and cons

The highest tog duvet you can buy is usually 15 tog, although we have seen some all-season duvets (where two separate duvets of differing togs are combined into one warmer duvet) offering a combined warmth of up to 18 tog. Snuggledown hollowfibre duvets are loved by people of all ages. This lightweight filling is made from a hollow strand of polyester, with air trapped inside the material to increase fluff and bounce. Hollowfibre is the ultimate anti-allergy duvet product and offers good temperature regulation. Snuggledown hollowfibre duvets carry heat and moisture away from your body to inspire comfort and restful sleep. Hypoallergenic means that the actual material and filling of the duvet isn't made of a known potential allergen, like feathers or wool. But other allergens, mainly dust mites, can still develop on these types of duvets.Spend some time looking for a new duvet and you'll soon realise there are a whole host of duvet fillings available. From hollow fibre to goose down, synthetic to natural, the array of terms and materials can fast become a little overwhelming. Snuggledown Hollowfibre Duvets Don't buy it if: you truly want to splash out on the best duvet for your boudoir. This option is very good for its price, but the higher feather mix does mean it feels more 'clumpy' than the 90% down alternatives on our list. That said, this is still a great buy, and the addition of feathers does make the duvet a little more breathable than a duvet with a higher down percentage, albeit not quite as warm.
